GoDaddy is one of the largest domain name registrars in the market today. They are also one of the longest serving. You don’t survive that long in the market if you are not doing something right. They will cater to most, if not all, of your domain needs. You are here because you want to find out how to purchase your domain from GoDaddy.

Whether it is your first domain name ever or your first with GoDaddy, we got you. This is a step by step pictorial tutorial of everything you will find and expect. Go to the GoDaddy homepage so we can walk through the process together. By the end, you will be the proud owner of a domain name.

Go to GoDaddy Homepage

This is more like step 0.

Navigate to the GoDaddy website homepage. You can repeat the steps alongside the tutorial.

The homepage will look different on your phone.

There may be slight variation depending on changes GoDaddy makes to the website. If it doesn’t look like the images above, don’t worry most of the process will remain the same.

Confirm your domain name is available

You need to check if what you want is available. GoDaddy has a search input which you can use to key in your domain name of preference.

Like it says, ‘Type the domain you want’. I’m searching for the domain name, ‘example’. I’ll type that into the search input.

Once you have typed, the website will load and bring you the results of your search. You will see a results page with what is available.

On the phone, the results will look like this.

In my case, I’d like ‘example.com’ but I don’t see it included. Look for the search input and enter the complete domain name including the Top Level Domain (TLD). The TLD is the ‘.com’; it is the extension.

Once you click the search icon, you get more specific results.

On the phone, the results on example.com are like this.

Unfortunately for me ‘example.com’ is taken.

Note: All domain name registrars look for the availability of a domain name from one central place. If GoDaddy says the domain name you are interested in is taken, then other domain registrars can’t sell it to you. They can reach out to the current owner and see if the owner would be willing to sell it to you.

Adding to cart

We will work with ‘example.me’.

Once you have confirmed that the domain is available, click on the Add to Cartbutton, Make it yoursbutton or the icon to the far right of the domain name

.

The example below has the Make it yoursbutton for example.me.

Continue to cart

When you click on the Make it yours button, it turns into a Continue to cart button.

The same thing happens when you click on the cart icon, it changes into a button that will take you to the cart.

The changes are similar on the phone version.

Click on the Continue to cart button.

Extra Features Page

Clicking on the Continue to cart button will take you to a page which lists extra features that you could buy alongside your domain name. The main ones are domain protection and Microsoft 365 email and other essentials. Pick the one that is vital to your business.

Your Basket

You should now be at Your Basket page. It contains all the products you have added to cart.

Note the amount the domain name is renewing for. The purchase price is high because it is a premium domain. We talk about premium domains in our article on what you should know before purchasing a domain name. The renewal amount is at £39.35 per annum for this domain.

Click on I’m Ready to Pay

Checkout

Once you hit the button to pay, you’ll be asked to sign in. This request is if you haven’t signed in already. You can also create a new account if you don’t have one using a method of your choice.

The checkout page will then ask you to input your payment details. The two methods available at the moment are credit/debit cards and Paypal.

Click on Complete purchase.

There should be a success message that displays after successfully completing the purchase. The process is seamless if your payment details are in order.

Congratulations

You are now a proud owner of a domain name with GoDaddy. It is a simple process and hopefully this information helped.

You have bought a domain name. Now what? You should now connect it to the IP Address of the server that hosts your website.

For those who don’t have a website, it’s time to create one. GoDaddy has a website builder and we discuss that in our article on building a website through GoDaddy website builder.
